Launch of Film Mayo Website and Mayo County Council Film Bursary Award

Mayo County Council will host the official launch of Film Mayo website and the Mayo County Council Film Bursary at a special event in the Town Hall Theatre, Westport on Monday, 22 June 2026, which will be officially launched by Minister Alan Dillon, Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment.

Together, these developments mark an important investment by Mayo County Council to support filmmaking in the county and to further develop the screen sector at a regional level, building on its commitment to creative talent, production activity, and Mayo’s profile as a filming location.

The event programme will include the launch of a newly updated Film Mayo website and the Mayo County Council Film Bursary, designed to support filmmaking in the county. Full details of the bursary criteria and application process will be announced on the day, with applications scheduled to close in mid-July 2026.

Filmmakers, producers, and creatives are encouraged to attend the event to learn more about the bursary and wider supports available through Film Mayo. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP by 18 June to filmmayo@mayococo.ie.

A key feature of the programme will be “Made Here – A Conversation about Film, Place & Practice”, a panel discussion moderated by Niamh Fagan (Screen Ireland), with contributions from Alan Friel, Gar O’Brien, Martina Niland, Jennifer Davidson, and Lochlann O’Mearáin. The discussion will explore the role of place in storytelling and the opportunities for film development in the region.

The event will also host the inaugural meeting of the Mayo Film Collective, led by Western Front Studios, providing a new forum for collaboration and connection among filmmakers in Mayo.
