The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
The wild and rugged landscapes of Co. Mayo offer endless wonderful location options to film makers. Deciding to use Achill Island as one of our key locations for ‘Banshees of Inisherin’ was no accident. We scouted the entire west coast of Ireland, and Achill stood out above every where else.
Eoin Holohan,
Also instrumental in our decision to shoot there, was the support and help we received from Film Mayo and Mayo Co. Co. Film Mayo were involved from the beginning, and their enthusiasm, advice and assistance proved invaluable.
Locations Manager,
My Sailor My Love (2022)
I just want to say a big thank you to Film Mayo for all your help during our production in Achill Island and it was a pleasure to meet Mayo County Council staff on your set visit. I would like to thank the Achill community for their cooperation while filming. The locations we shot, looked stunning on camera. Achill offers beautiful locations and I would love to see more productions making their way to Achill.

Pilgrimage (2015)
County Mayo has been a truly wonderful place to make a movie. I think this film ‘Pilgrimage’ will be enhanced greatly by the fact that we chose to shoot in Mayo. The diversity and beauty of locations that exist there is stunning. The people are extremely helpful and open to the idea of filming their beautiful County. I hope to return again soon with other productions to this beautiful part of the world!

The Field (1990)
Much of The Field was shot along the Galway Mayo border. I particularly remember that we shot the dramatic fight scene for The Field on location at Ashleigh Falls, Co. Mayo. Bull Mc Cabe (Richard Harris) takes the life of The American (Tom Berenger) with the roaring falls as backdrop. The energy of this Mayo location heightened the dramatic tension of the scene.
Jim Sheridan,
Writer/Director
Ireland has always been a safe haven in the creative sense for me and, in my work as a screenwriter, I find Mayo – and where I live in Killawalla outside of Westport — a perfect fit. Perfect in the sense of the fierce solitude of the mesmeric landscape, the storm lashed skies burnt blue by the surprise of a mild day, and the majesty of the moment one finds in the contemplation of the creatures of the imagination nurtured in the challenge of a blank page. Scratch the surface in Mayo, and you’ll find the magic to go along with the hard work of art.

Hardy Bucks
Filming in Mayo has been an amazing experience for us whilst producing both the Hardy Bucks TV series and The Hardy Bucks Movie. The diversity of location possibilities combined with the warm welcome from the locals and ease of filming combine to make Mayo an outstanding location. In fact I loved filming here so much I actually decided to move here!
