Croagh Patrick

Just 8km from Westport Croagh Patrick, is a 764 metres (2,507 ft) mountain and an important site of pilgrimage in Ireland.  It forms the southern part of a U-shaped valley created by a glacier flowing into Clew Bay in the last Ice Age. From green, heather-filled lower slopes to a stark, grey, and brown rocky cone near the summit the area features traditional stone walls, quiet rural landscapes, and proximity to the ruined 15th-century Murrisk Abbey.  Croagh Patrick is a working hill farm with lambs a foot.

Known as Ireland’s holiest mountain rising above the village of Murrisk, the mountain is climbed by pilgrims on Reek Sunday, the last Sunday in July and is known for its spiritual significance as a pilgrimage site.

Croagh Patrick is a popular and iconic filming location, frequently used for its stunning, dramatic landscapes and magnificent views over Clew Bay offering cinematic potential for documentaries, features, and drone shots, though filming requires navigating challenging terrain, unpredictable weather.
