Moore Hall
Located 11km north of Ballinrobe and 20km south of Castlebar, Moore Hall is the epitome of ruined grandeur. A neo-classical house on the shores of Lough Carra offers a unique backdrop of heritage and natural beauty. The lake is known for its marl bottom which gives the water its distinctive colour.
The ruined Georgian mansion was destroyed by fire in 1923 during the Irish Civil War and is a dramatic focal point set in a native broadleaf and conifer woodland. The site features an extensive network of forest roads, trails, lake shore access, and established car parking, ideal for period pieces or dramatic chase sequences.
Moore Hall estate came into the ownership of the state, with the forested areas managed by Coillte. Recently Mayo County Council acquired parts of the estate, including the ruined 18th-century house and approximately 80 acres of woodland.
