The Mall Castlebar

The Mall in Castlebar was originally Lord Lucan’s cricket green and provided a link between his house and Christ Church.  The largest town in Mayo Castlebar was originally a garrison and market town surrounded by a Library and a Courthouse.

The double line of trees still visible today on the Mall, running from the Holy Trinity Church of Ireland to the Lucan homestead known as The Lawn, were planted around 1870.

This historic central green space and former cricket pitch was donated to the town in 1888 is famous for hosting events and is now surrounded by key public buildings like the Library, Courthouse, and Mayo County Council.
