Westport

One of Ireland’s few planned towns (designed in the 1780s) Westport is an award-winning heritage town and is renowned for its Georgian architecture.

Features include tree-lined promenades along the Carrowbeg River, the quays, colourful shop fronts, lively pubs and traditional Irish music. At the heart of the town sits a unique eight-sided plaza (the Octagon) where there is a small local market.

It is home to Westport House, an 18th-century Palladian estate and has a Town Hall Theatre on the Octagon.  The town is a hub for walking, cycling, water sports and is the starting point of the Great Western Greenway.   It offers easy access to Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick.
